Richland (9-3, 6-2 District) completed the season sweep of the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs on the pitch when they defeated CHS 9-1 in Lynnville on Tuesday night.

The Lady Raiders buried Cornersville (1-9, 1-5 District) early and forged a 7-0 lead in the first half before tacking on two more goals in the first 15 minutes of the second stanza to open up a 9-0 advantage.

Lady Bulldog midfielder Anna Claire Foster finally got CHS on the board in the 68th minute when she lined an 18-yard direct kick underneath the top post of the net from the middle of the field.

Heavy pressure

Richland put almost unrelenting pressure on Cornersville's net and outshot the Lady Bulldogs 34-9 overall. The Lady Raiders featured a balanced offensive attack that saw six different players score in the contest.

Lindsey Owens recorded a natural hat trick by scoring three goals in the first half to go along with one assist. Lexi Jones also tallied two goals and an assist for Richland, while Leah Lanier, Sarahevelyn Corlew, Audrey Briggs, and Tiffany Slaton notched one goal apiece with Lanier registering an assist.

"I think one of the best parts of this team is that they play as a team. We don't have any individual stars and the girls are very unselfish. The upperclassmen have done a great job of leading the team," said Lady Raider coach George Witt.

Hope Calahan started the game at goaltender for Richland and finished with three saves. Slaton then replaced Calahan in net midway through the second half and tallied one save while allowing one goal.

Foster was the biggest bright spot for the Lady Bulldogs and led Cornersville with six shot attempts. Autumn Sheroski, Gloria Armijo, and Suany Armijo each attempted one shot for CHS as well.

Cornersville's (6) Anna Claire Foster dribbles around Richland's (11) Mary Taylor Lee in the first half.

"Anna Claire is doing a good job and is picking up a lot of slack for us," said Cornersville coach Sherrie Campbell. "She's definitely the leader of the team and competes hard every game."

Lady Bulldog goalie Marilyn Guzman had a busy night and recorded 15 saves.
