Forrest wins big over Cheatham Co.
The Forrest Lady Rockets left no doubt that they are on a mission to advance deep into the District 9A-AA Tournament when they blasted Cheatham County 8-0 Tuesday night at the Lions Club Memorial Field in Chapel Hill.
"It feels good, but it's not over, we still have a lot of work to do," said Forrest head coach Natalie Dennis.
Senior striker Sarah Blasingim came up with a hat trick for Forrest, while fellow seniors Cassie Septer and Sierra Waggoner both netted a pair of goals in the contest.
"We really didn't know what to expect from them, but we knew if we played our game and do what we do, we would be alright," said Dennis. "All the girls did well tonight, but I am really going to miss these seniors."
After a relatively slow start versus the Lady Cubs, Septer opened the scoring with a goal in traffic at the 28:11 mark of the first half.
Five minutes later, Waggoner chested in a goal off a perfect corner kick by Brynn Colvin, making it a 2-0 contest.
Meanwhile, the Lady Rockets threw a blanket over Cheatham County in the defensive end, stopping any scoring threats from materializing before they reached freshman goalie Jasmine Runk, who stopped all 14 shots headed her way in the game for Forrest.
"The defense held their own tonight, but we are going to have to work hard on Thursday to keep moving on," said Dennis.
With 3:53 remaining in the first half, Blasingim came up with a steal and capitalized with a right-footed rocket past the Cheatham County goaltender, making it a 3-nil contest.
Forrest came out of the halftime break still on fire as Colvin made it 4-0 when she weaved her way through traffic before letting go a missile that found the back of the visitor's net.
The Lady Rockets continued to press for more as the action remained in the Cheatham County end and with 32 minutes left in the game, Blasingim knocked in a rebound to put the home team up 5-0.
The Lady Cubs finally got the ball into Forrest territory and had two good scoring opportunities midway through the second half, but were denied by Runk on both occasions.
Forrest wanted more and they got goal number six when Waggoner was in the right place at the right time again, scoring on a rebound to give the Lady Rockets a 6-0 lead.
Blasingim would convert the hat trick moments later to make it 7-0, giving her 16 goals on the season.
Septer wasn't done yet either as she scored her team leading 22 goal of the campaign on a beautiful run through the Cheatham County defense, putting the cap on the contest.
Colvin, who has 19 goals on the season, had three assists in the game, pushing her team leading total to 16.
