Gene Shires, 85, of the Caney Spring Community of Marshall County, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, in Lewisburg.
Mr. Shires was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Paul Jones and Elizabeth Harris Shires. He was a graduate of Forrest School in Chapel Hill, attended the University of Tennessee, and served his country as a member of the Tennessee National Guard. Mr. Shires was a lifelong dairy farmer. He served as an Elder and was a lifelong member of the Chapel Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Shires is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Elrod Shires of the Caney Spring Community; son, Jeff (Dru) Shires of Unionville; cousin, Moiselle Peay of Nashville; grandsons, Daniel (Melanie) Lambert of Unionville and Rev. Dustin (Jenifer) Lambert of Cordova; great-grandchildren, Michael, Chase and Melissa Lambert, and Elsie, Sylvia and Sydney Lambert.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Dustin Lambert and Rev. Joe Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Allen Cemetery in the Caney Spring Community.
Daniel Lambert, Dustin Lambert, E. W. Hill, Eddy Harber, Jerry Harber, Brent Johns, and Brian Johns will serve as pallbearers.
