Although their final regular season match did not yield another qualifier for the upcoming Region Swim Meet, all three Marshall County teams enjoyed a productive night in the pool at the Lewisburg Recreation Center on Thursday, as nine different swimmers set personal bests in 13 different events.

"I was surprised. We did really well considering that we had time off because of Christmas break and missed some practices because they were working on the pool," said Jeff Borne, who coaches all three local teams.

Led by senior Alyssa Elliot, the Forrest Lady Rockets recorded top three finishes in four out of the 11 girls' events. Having already qualified for the Region Meet in three different events, Elliot captured second place in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 3:04.28 before finishing third in the 100 meter breaststroke.

"I think Alyssa has a chance to do well in the Region Meet. She just has to pick the two events that she wants to compete in," said Borne.

After reaching the benchmark for the Region Meet in the 100 meter butterfly earlier in the season, Forrest freshman Caroline Heck narrowly missed qualifying for the 100 meter freestyle on Thursday, but still set a personal best time of 1:20. 52 en route to an eighth place finish in the event. Heck then came in fifth in the 100 meter breaststroke later in the evening.

Older sister Jessie Heck, meanwhile, set a career best in the 50 meter freestyle (38.44) and placed sixth in the event before coming in 12th in the 100 meter freestyle. Ravynn Reyes-Gilbert also finished eighth in the 50 meter freestyle with a personal best time of 41.26 while placing 15th in the 100 meter freestyle. Courtney Beard recorded career bests in the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle as well and placed 14th and 17th respectively in the two events.

The Lady Rockets showcased the overall depth of their team by winning both relay events while setting season best times in the two races. Forrest's four-woman team of Elliot, Caroline Heck, Jessie Heck, and Reyes-Gilbert claimed first place in the 200 meter medley relay by completing the race in 2:51.50 before winning the 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:31.76.

Regional qualifier Natalie Cook turned in the top performance for the Marshall County Tigerettes, as she claimed first place in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 6:33.10 after coming in third place in the 100 meter butterfly.

Ashley Parker posted personal best times in both the 200 meter freestyle (3:17.17) and the 100 meter freestyle (1:28.55) while finishing fourth and 13th respectively in the two events. Veronica Kanka also placed 11th in the 100 meter freestyle with a career best time of 1:25.62 before coming in eighth in the 100 meter breaststroke. Rosa Middaugh set a personal best time as well in the 50 meter freestyle (41.95) and finished ninth in the event while placing 16th in the 100 meter freestyle.

The Tigerettes participated in only one of the relay events and saw their team of Kanka, Middaugh, Parker, and Cook finish second in the 200 meter freestyle.

Cornersville

Cornersville's Kayla Richter, who has already qualified for the Region Meet in the 100 meter backstroke, won that event on Thursday night with a time of 1:26.97 after placing ninth in the 100 meter freestyle. Anne Howes also competed in the 100 meter backstroke for the Lady Bulldogs and finished fourth overall to go along with a 12th place finish in the 50 meter freestyle. CHS sophomore Alexis Burns set career bests in both the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle and placed 16th and 20th respectively in the two races.

Boys' meet

Marshall County's Camron Middaugh was the top local swimmer in the boys meet, as he swam personal best times in both the 50 meter freestyle and the 100 meter freestyle. Middaugh narrowly missed qualifying for the Region Meet in the 50 meet with a time of 31.97, but still finished seventh in the event before coming in sixth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:12.24).

Tiger freshman Laramie Plott also came in 10th in the 100 meter freestyle and placed fifth in the 100 meter breaststroke, while Noah Curren finished ninth in the 50 meter freestyle and 12th in the 100 meter freestyle.

Seth Beard was the Forrest Rockets' lone representative in the pool and earned an eighth place finish in the 50 meter freestyle before coming in 11th in the 100 meter freestyle.

Swimmers from all three teams will have one final chance to qualify for the Region Meet when they conduct a swim off at the Lewisburg Recreation Center on Wednesday night.
