John Wesley Childress
John Wesley Childress, 66, of Lewisburg, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.
A native of Lincoln County, Mr. Childress was the son of the late George Elmer Childress and Edith Dunn Childress of Lewisburg, who survives.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Emma Jean Childress, and two brothers, David and Paul Childress.
John graduated with a Masters Degree at Vanderbilt University, was on the Marshall County Tax Equalization Board for 25 years, was a former County Commissioner, was actively involved in the family business of Belfast Rock and co-owner of Childress Storage, and served on the board of The Child Development Center for many years. He loved traveling the world, was an avid photographer, and had a passion for history and genealogy.
In addition to his mother, John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Luz Mary Bohorquez Childress of Lewisburg; one son, Mario Antonio Bohorquez of Bogota, Colombia, South America; two brothers, Marion (Delores) Childress and George (Anna) Childress Jr., both of Lewisburg; one sister, Deborah Maynard of Lewisburg; two grandchildren, Lina Margarita Bohorquez of Bogota, Colombia, South America, and John Sebastian Bohorquez of Orlando, Fla.; 16 nieces and nephews, and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Childress were held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at St. John's the Evangelist Church in Lewisburg.
Following the service, Mr. Childress was cremated and his ashes were interred in Head Springs Cemetery in Belfast.
