Lady Panthers top LMS Tigerettes
E.O. Coffman (1-0) snapped the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes' three-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Panthers thumped LMS 9-1 in four innings at Summertown.
The Tigerettes (3-2) had scored a total of 32 runs over their previous three games, but saw their bats go silent against E.O. Coffman and mustered only two hits against two Lady Panther pitchers.
E.O. Coffman starting hurler Maci Birdyshaw picked up the win and recorded four strikeouts over two perfect innings. Callie Rose then came on in relief of Birdyshaw and yielded one unearned run in two innings of work on two hits.
Naomi Hopper and Taylor Poteete each singled to account for both Lewisburg hits.
The Lady Panthers, conversely, tallied 12 hits against Tigerette starting hurler Marlee Woodward, who went the distance in the circle and suffered the loss. Callie Rose (2 RBI), Brinley Rose (1 RBI), and Tori Thrasher notched two hits apiece to lead E.O. Coffman at the plate. Birdyshaw (2 RBI), Emma Rochelle (2 RBI), Gracie Judkins (1 RBI), Addy Land, M.C. Brown, and Taytum Brazier each recorded a hit for the Lady Panthers as well.
"I talked to the umpires after the game and they told me that E.O. Coffman always has a really good team," said first-year Lewisburg coach Beau Hardison. "They did a good job of moving their runners over and getting them in. They're a complete ballclub."
The Lady Panthers played some small ball early on and scratched out a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. After legging out an infield single to leadoff the frame, Thrasher advanced all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt by Claire Woods prior to coming home on a Birdyshaw RBI groundout.
E.O. Coffman then quickly distanced themselves from LMS over the next two innings, as they crossed home plate three times in the top of the second on a RBI single by Brinley Rose and a Callie Rose two-run single to make it 4-0 before pushing across two more runs in the third thanks to a RBI triple by Birdyshaw and a Judkins RBI single to stretch their lead to 6-0.
Finally, a run
In the bottom of the third, the Tigerettes trimmed the deficit to 6-1 when Hopper scored on a Lady Panther error after singling with two outs and advancing to second on an errant pickoff throw by the catcher.
E.O. Coffman quickly counterpunched and pushed their lead to 9-1 in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-run single by Rochelle and a Jenna Brazier sacrifice fly.
Callie Rose then worked around a one-out single by Poteete in the bottom of the fourth before the game was called due to time constraints.
