Old prom dresses and tuxedos were dragged out of the closet and dusted off for the Relay for Life Masquerade Gala Ball, held Saturday night at the Elks Lodge.

The Gala raised $5,400 that will go towards the Marshall County Relay for Life team's goal of $75,000 for the year.

Relay for Life focuses on raising funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Their three goals are to celebrate the lives of the survivors, remember and honor the lives of the people who lost their battle or who are fighting it and take action against the disease.

Each countywide team has its own signature fundraiser with the organization. Unlike other counties who do a Celebrity Waiters fundraiser or a 5K run, the Marshall County team wanted to hold a different kind of fundraiser.

"We wanted to do something different that would be fun, but yet raise cancer awareness and knowledge of the Marshall County Relay for Life," said Trina Rios, event chair for the Relay for Life.

This was the first time the group held an annual countywide fundraiser and Rios is already looking forward to next year's ball.

As guests walked in, they were given a masquerade mask and a raffle ticket.

After enjoying food catered by the Elks Lodge staff, door prizes were given away.

Stacy Sorbelli won the grand prize which was a one night stay at the Opryland Hotel.

Towards the end of the night, everyone let loose and danced to music by The Band Entice.

Sponsored tables were taken by First National Bank, Meiwa, Weichert Realtors Lampley Group, Rogers Transport, AvKARE, Marshall Medical Center Employees who were in honor of Betty Sircy and in memory of Connie Haislip, and Marshall County Mayor Joe Boyd Liggett.
