Ruth Liggett DeFriese

Ruth Liggett DeFriese, 103, of Knoxville, passed away March 16, 2015.

She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church for over 85 years where she and her husband helped organize the Christian Home Sunday School class.

Ruth was the first home demonstration agent in Washington County, a dietician at the University of Tennessee Strong Hall cafeteria and a home economics teacher at Young High School.

Her husband, Frank M. DeFriese, preceded her in death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Tyra Fenton Liggett and Eugenia Allen Liggett, four sisters and two brothers of Berlin.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eugenia and James W. Bond III of Morristown; granddaughter and husband, Mary Ellen and Bennett Cox of Knoxville; grandson, James W. Bond IV of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, James Bennett Cox, Mary Elizabeth Cox, Ashley Jameson Bond and Adrian Bond; several nieces and nephews and their families; and extended family member Mrs. Sue Cox.

Her service will be at Church Street United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 20.

The family will receive friends in the Church Chapel from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, and following the service.
