Forrest Middle tripped up after 6-game win streak

The Forrest Middle School Lady Rockets ran off six victories in a row before losing a pair in a middle school tournament Saturday at Ridley Park in Columbia.

FMS (6-2) beat EA Coffman 3-0 in the opening game on Saturday before coming up with a 6-2 win over Stewarts Creek.

Winning effort

The Lady Rockets scored two runs in the top of the first inning versus Stewart's Creek as Ally Blanton scored on an error and Kennedy Gillespie knocked in twin sister Kayla via an RBI single to center field.

McKenna Young drove home a run for Stewart's Creek in the bottom of the inning, but Lauren Gillespie singled, stole second and scored on a Lady Falcons error in the top of the second, making it 3-1.

Lauren Gillespie was strong in the circle for Forrest, getting out of a bases loaded two-out jam in the home half of the inning and it the top of the third, Kayla and Kennedy Gillespie teamed up again with back-to-back RBIs.

In the top of the fourth, FMS third baseman Sydney Hill fielded three consecutive groundball outs.

Win sealed, but...

Lauren Gillespie knocked home the final FMS run with an RBI triple in the top of the fourth inning and the lefty sealed the win for the Lady Rockets, giving up just one run to the Lady Falcons the rest of the way.

In game three, Lincoln County handed FMS its first loss of the season (6-1) and in the Lady Rockets' final game of the tournament, Siegel bested Forrest 8-4.

The top five hitters for FMS so far this season are Caroline Warner (4-7, .570), Zoe Long (7-14, .500), Kaydee Todd (7-14, .500), Kayla Gillespie (10-22, .454), and Kennedy Gillespie (8-20, .400).
