After weeks of trying to play due to a myriad of weather related postponements, the county middle school softball rivalry between Forrest and Lewisburg Middle School finally resumed on Wednesday night in Chapel Hill.

LMS, the defending conference tournament champions, was the home team on the scoreboard in the matchup, but it was the Lady Rockets who prevailed 8-1 on the Field of Dreams.

Lauren Gillespie tossed a gem in the circle for Forrest, picking up the complete game win as the lefty gave up just two hits, while striking out four and walking two LMS batters in the contest.

Kennedy Gillespie (6) looks up as her first inning, two-run double finds the gap in right field.

Forrest had nine hits in the game and jumped on LMS starter Marli Woodward with four runs in the top of the first inning with the big blow coming off the bat of Kennedy Gillespie, who slammed a two-run double.

Savannah Wooten reached on an infield single to lead off the bottom of the first for LMS, but was gunned down trying to steal second by FMS catcher Ally Blanton.

Caroline Warner singled to center field to lead off the top of the second for FMS and Sydney Hill followed with a surprise bunt single.

Warner went to third and Hill took second base on the bunt.

Two-run hit

Woodward was replaced in the circle by Brooklyn Conger and the LMS standout was rudely greeted by Josie Bond, who followed with a base hit up the gut, scoring both runners to make it a 7-0 contest.

LMS' Brooklyn Conger (15) had a solid game with six innings of strong relief in the circle, while providing the lone Tigerettes' run with a seventh inning RBI double.

Conger would pitch masterfully the rest of the game, allowing just three more hits, including an RBI double by FMS center fielder Kayla Gillespie in the top of the fourth inning.

Lauren Gillespie shut down the Tigerettes until Conger came up with an RBI double that scored Annie Hawkins with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Savannah Wooten (4) had one hit for LMS, while playing great defense at shortstop for the Tigerettes.

Conger went six innings in relief, giving up one earned run on four hits, while striking out two and walking one FMS batter.
