The Forrest Lady Rockets, coming off a big weekend at the Lincoln County Border battle, returned to the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill Monday night where they run-ruled Columbia Central 11-1.

"I was proud of our girls today, we were pretty solid all the way around," said Forrest coach Becky Cheatham. "I was happy we got almost everybody in the game."

It was the third time this season that Forrest beat the Lady Lions.

Winning effort

Lainey Mays picked up the win in the circle for Forrest, tossing three innings of one-hit ball, while striking out two and walking zero Columbia Central batters.

"Lainey really stepped up for us tonight," said Cheatham. "You don't feel so much pressure if you have someone who can step in and do the job like Lainey did tonight."

The only blemish off Lainey Mays was a solo homerun by Hailee Venable in the third inning.

The blast was Venable's 11th dinger of her career.

Lead holds

Lainey Mays (77) picked up the win in the circle for Forrest.

Lainey Mays set down the Lady Lions 1-2-3 in the top of the first on three ground ball outs before Forrest gave her all the runs she would need in the home half of the frame.

Briar Mays led off the inning with a bunt single and came home on a Carson Warner double.

Micayla Feller came on to run for Warner and went to third on a passed ball before scoring on a squeeze bunt RBI by Lainey Mays.

Amanda Patterson doubled to left field, knocking in Lainey Mays to make it 3-0.

There was no scoring in the second inning before Venable's blast in the top of the third.

Huge homer

Samantha King walked to lead off the bottom of the third, setting up a monstrous home run over the scoreboard in center field by Katie Warrick.

Two unearned crossed the plate to make it a 7-1 contest and an RBI double by Jordan Yelensky put Forrest up 8-1.

Madison Curtis came to the circle in the top of the fourth inning for Forrest and gave up a leadoff hit to Alexis Lovett.

Lovett tried to stretch the hit to a double, but was thrown out on a hustle play by Kelsie Darnell.

Curtis retired the next two Columbia Central batters and in the top of the fifth inning, Curtis gave up one more hit.

Curtis walked one batter and gave up two hits in her two innings of work in the circle.

Katie Warrick (55) slams a home run over the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.

Forrest scored three more unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the run-rule game.
