Cornersville ace lefty David Looney halted Forrest's post-season dreams Friday night at Chapel Hill, tossing a four-hitter to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win in the Class-A sectional game.

The Bulldogs will take on Huntingdon at Middle Tennessee Christian School in the opening round of the TSSAA Spring Fling on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Looney struck out six and walked two in the contest.

David Looney shut down the Rockets for the second time in three years in the sectional round, tossing a four-hitter Friday night.

It was the second time in three years that Looney shut down the Rockets (21-9) in a sectional game at Forrest.

In 2013, Looney and Bulldogs (19-10) won at Chapel Hill 4-1 to advance to their first state tournament ever.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, Cornersville mounted the go-ahead rally, beginning with a leadoff single by Hunter Talley.

Talley was awarded second base after a balk by Logan Hollingsworth before Tate Lowery roped an double RBI double to tie the game.

Tate Lowery tomahawks a double in the fifth inning that scored Hunter Talley, tying the game at 1-1.

Lowery wound up on third base after an errant throw home and two batters later, the Bulldog shortstop came home with the go-ahead run on an infield hit by Aaron Fox.

It was all Looney would need as he retired three in a row in the bottom of the sixth and in the bottom of the seventh, Looney picked off Jonathon Lykins at first base to take all the wind out of Forrest sails and its season.

The other Class-A state tournament matchups are Summertown (30-8) vs. Peabody (29-5), Oneida (21-7) vs. Goodpasture (31-8) and Boyd Buchanan (27-9) vs. Knoxville Grace.
