After an 8-0 win over A-Plus Collision Center in its last game, Nichirin was on the other end of the see-saw, trailing 8-1 before storming back for a 9-8 victory over Marshall Medical Center (MMC) Tuesday night at The Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field at Lewisburg.

Nichirin's Jacob Freeland was the hero of the night, slamming a two-out, seventh inning double that drove home the tying run, plus the eventual game-winner.

Big hitter

Freeland went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and the Nichirin center fielder also had a leadoff triple in the sixth inning that ignited a three-run rally.

For the second game in a row, MMC hurler Austin Grubbs recorded a four-strikeout inning, this time it was in Nichirin's first at bat where they scored an unearned off Grubbs.

MMC came right back with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, with the big blow coming on a two-run double by Jackson Coward.

Five-run inning

There was no scoring until the bottom of the third when MMC sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

Coward had an RBI single in the frame, Bo Vanhooser and Blake Aldridge posted RBI walks and Nate Thomason added a two-run single.

Nichirin pecked away at the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth on an unearned run and an RBI double by Cameron Burrow.

Blake Distelow, who had come on for Nichirin starting pitcher Hunter Huarez in the third inning, sailed his way through the fifth inning unscathed.

In the top of the sixth, Nichirin cut the margin to a pair of runs on a Burrow RBI base hit, a Kolton Fitch run scoring single and an MMC error, making it 8-6.

Mowed 'em down

Burrow came to the hill for Nichirin in the home half of the inning and set down the Medical Center guys 1-2-3 with a pair of strikeouts.

Two MMC errors, a base on balls and the Freeland double put Nichirin in front 9-8 in the top of the seventh.

Hunter Huarez has been the workhorse on the mound this season for Nichirin.

With one out in the bottom of the inning, Will Vanhooser ripped a ball to right field for a clean double, but he was out, trying to stretch it to a triple thanks to a great relay play, and one batter later, the game ended on a ground ball to Burrow at third.
