Nichirin wins 3rd straight
Besides unbeaten Clint's Air Care, Nichirin is the hottest team in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League.
Nichirin (5-2) won its third game in a row, beating the Elks 4-2 Wednesday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field at Lewisburg.
Lefty Blake Distelow started on the hill for Nichirin and set down the Elks 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning.
In the home half of the inning, Nichirin scored three runs on just one hit, an RBI double by the red-hot Jake Freeland.
Two Elks' errors allowed the other two runs to cross the plate in the frame.
Distelow retired three more Elks' batters in a row in the second inning before he surrendered the first hit against him when Jamaria Perkins singled to left field with two outs in the third inning.
Meanwhile, Walker Whaley was doing his job on the mound for the Elks, holding Nichirin down until a two-run double by Elks' left fielder Devin Adeylotte made it a 3-2 contest in the top of the fourth inning.
Nichirin tallied its final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Cameron Burrow singled to right field with one out an wound up on third base after am errant throw.
Distelow helped his own cause by giving himself some breathing room when he knocked in Burrow with a base hit to make it a 4-2 ballgame.
Hunter Huarez, who had came on in relief of Distelow in the top of the fifth inning allowed just one Elks' base runner in the final two innings to pick up the save.
