Earl Pitts Jr.
Pastor Earl Pitts, Jr., age 77, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, died Monday, July 6, 2015, in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Pastor Earl was born in Lincoln County and was a son of the late Johnnie Mae Smith Pitts and Earl Pitts, Sr. He was a farmer and butcher, and served 29 years as Pastor of Little Hurricane Primitive Baptist Church in Manchester, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Earl Pitts, III, and a brother, John Lewis Pitts.
Pastor Pitts is survived by his wife, Thelma Pitts, Chapel Hill; children, Lisa McLean, Lewisburg; Regina Claybrooks, Lewisburg; Kevin Armstrong, Lewisburg; Bobbye Mayes, Chapel Hill; Phyllis Simpson, Petersburg, Tennessee; Gloria Williams, Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and Brenda Mason, Fayetteville, Tennessee; brothers, James Pitts, Louisville, Kentucky and William E. Pitts, Murfreesboro; sisters, Mary Frances Shelton, Louisville; Bertha Lee Walton, LaVergne, Tennessee; Annie Lou Ella Scott, San Antonio, Texas; and Irene McDonald, Murfreesboro; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Family members received friends on Friday, July 10, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Pastor Leander Blackman, Pastor David Gardner, Pastor James McCarroll, Pastor William Herbert Johnson and Deacon Larry Murray officiating. Burial followed in Egypt Cemetery near Chapel Hill.
