Fury '03 wins World Series
The Fury '03 United States Specialty Sports Association (USSA) 11-under squad, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, recently won the 2015 World Series title played at Orlando, Florida, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Forrest seventh-grader Jenna Blanton and Ryleigh Boyett, the daughter of MCHS graduate Clint Boyett are members of the Fury that has players from Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Virginia.
Blanton is the team's centerfielder and is a slap hitter, putting up a solid .500 on base percentage in either the second or ninth spot in the batting order.
Boyett, who was voted to the All-Tournament team, plays first base and bats third or fourth in the order.
The Fury swept pool play in the tournament, beating the Arkansas Thunder 7-1, Florida Wild 5-2 and Louzia Thunder (Virginia) 12-0 on a no-hitter thrown by Mackenzie Newcomb.
With these three wins, Fury '03 garnered the overall No. 1 seed for the tournament.
In bracket play, the Fury started with a tough 5-4 win over the Boynton Beach, Florida, Bandits before coming up with a big 4-0 win over the defending USSSA 10-under champions, Pines Thunder 4-0.
The Fury went on to win 3-0 against the Jax Fusion on another no-hitter by Newcomb before claiming the World Series title with a 5-3 victory over the Fusion.
