William F. "Bill" Vernon
Mr. William F. "Bill" Vernon, age 87 of the Holts Corner Community of Marshall County, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015. Mr. Vernon was born in Williamson County and was a son of the late Francis Marion and Bessie Logan Vernon. He served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Vernon was a farmer and in 1989 retired after 25 years as an aircraft mechanic with Textron Industries in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a member of Holts Corner Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Chapel Hill Masonic Lodge No. 160. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Darlene Johns; grandson, Cody Curtis; sister, Flora Crosby; and brother, Joel Savell.
Mr. Vernon is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mae Sue Vernon, Holts Corner Community; daughter, Betty (Pete) Ladd, Chapel Hill, Tennessee; son, Chris (Michelle) Johns, Holts Corner Community; stepdaughter, Susan (David) DeVaughn, Corinth, Mississippi; grandchildren, Andy Ladd, Brian Ladd, Erica Curtis, Josh Curtis, Ashley Jewell; and four great grandchildren.
Family members received friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Chatman officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
Pete Ladd, Andy Ladd, Brian Ladd, Tommy Roberson, Johnny Poole and Josh Poole will serve as pallbearers.
