Lindy Massey Murdock

Lindy Massey Murdock, age 87, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015. Lindy served in the Navy during World War II, owned a dairy farm and worked in the dairy industry with his family in Middle Tennessee.

Lindy was a residential and commercial contractor in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before moving to Oak Ridge in 1974. He then became co-owner of M3 Construction and has built hundreds of homes in the area. He was a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ.

He was known for living life to the fullest, loved a funny joke and a good card game. He was an avid reader, traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Africa, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Lindy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mable Murdock; son, Mark Murdock; grandson Lindy James Murdock; son-in-law, Allan Smallwood; brothers, Hugh Murdock and Jerry Murdock; and sister, Ada Murdock Jones.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Viola Murdock; daughters Melody Smallwood and

Janie Shipley (Wayne); son Robert Murdock (Vicki); daughter-in-law Becky Murdock; sister Alma Murdock Beasley (Farris); eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in Lindy's home place of Petersburg, Tennessee, at Talley Cemetery on Aug. 15 at 1 p.m.
