Bulldogs kick off season on winning note
The Cornersville Bulldogs extended its win streak to 13 games with an opening season 44-0 thrashing over Richland Thursday night at Lynnville.
Cornersville dominated the game on both sides of the line of scrimmage, rushing for 284 yards, while holding Richland to just 13 yards of total offense.
The Bulldogs jumped on the Raiders from the outset of the contest, scoring 22 first-quarter points.
Wesley Calahan picked up a Brady Calahan fumble at the 4-yard line and took it in. Tyler Wolaver added the conversion run to make it 8-0.
With 3:07 remaining in the first quarter, Wesley Calahan scored again, this time on a 47-yard scamper, and Wolaver added two more points.
The Bulldogs scored again with two seconds remaining in the first quarter on a 17-yard run by Brady Calahan for the 22-0 cushion.
Early in the second quarter, Tilden Jackson had 42-yard touchdown run and the first half ended with Cornersville leading 30-0.
Brady Calahan tacked on a 25-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and Alex Hilliard capped off the rout with an 11-yard touchdown run with 12 minutes left in the game.
Jackson led the rushing attack for Cornersville, gaining 91 yards on just six carries while Brady Calahan picked 77 yards on five runs. Wesley Calahan had 49 yards on two touches, Hilliard added 32 yards and Wolaver netted 31 yards.
Reece Morton led the stout defensive effort with 4.5 tackles and two of the stops were for losses. Houston Williams had three tackles, while Bryan Giles, Colton Holder, and Jaysin Stafford added two tackles apiece.
The Bulldogs will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Thursday when they host Huntland.
