CMS Bulldogs bite Hornets
Cornersville Middle School took on Huntland Middle School in the first home game of the season and gave the fans an offensive show en route to a 48-0 win over the Hornets.
Cornersville jumped out to a 8-0 lead on a 52 yard TD by Brady Calahan on the very first play of the game and notched the lead up to 14-0 on the next possession as Calahan crossed the field after shaking off a sure tackle and ran 25 yards into the endzone.
Wesley Calahan then picked off a Huntland pass which Tyler Wolaver turned into a TD following a 33 yard quarterback keeper on the following play.
Back to Bulldogs
Huntland continued to struggle on offense handing the ball back over to the Bulldogs after a fumble and a turnover on downs.
Hunter Sharp got into the scoring action for CMS taking a reverse hand off 29 yards to the house to further the score 28-0 just before halftime.
"They really hustled in the first half to give us that lead", Coach Ray Stocstill said. "They have been working hard all summer long, they love to play and just get after it."
Brady Calahan struck again midway through the 2nd quarter running for 24 yards on the 2nd play of the series for his 3rd TD of the game.
As the lead continued to grow Cornersville started rotating the 2nd and 3rd string teams in and still managed to have great results.
"We try to instill them to be for each other," said Stocstill. "When the 2nd and 3rd team is in there be for them and when (the 1st team) is in there the 2nd and 3rd team cheers them on."
Alex Hilliard ran for a 26 yard score and Jackson Farler scored on a 21 yard QB keeper to finish out the Cornersville scoring.
Jackson Farler and Tyler Wolaver led the Bulldog defense which held the Hornets scoreless and -43 yards of offense and Wesley Calahan picked off 2 Hornet passes to lead the secondary.
Wesley Callahan led the Bulldogs offense with 101 yards and 3 TDs on just 3 carries, and Tyler Wolaver rushed for 73 yards on 5 attempts and a TD.
"We start talking about tomorrow and we start talking about the next team we play now", Coach Stocstill said. "We don't dwell on this win, we just tell them to enjoy it and when the night is over, this game is over."
Cornersville Middle will take a week off and return to action on 9/3 against South Giles.
