Mr. James Washington Beasley, age 89, of Chapel Hill, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015. Mr. Beasley was born in Cedar Grove, Tennessee, on April 11, 1926 to Jim Newton and Charlotte Arnold Beasley. He attended Cedar Grove School and Forrest High School in Chapel Hill. Mr. Beasley started dairy farming in 1948 and for many years partnered with his brothers Sam, Leonard and Virgil "swapping work" and eating the noon meal at the host farm. Later, he went into partnership with his sons, forming BeasleyLand Dairy.

He was a lifelong member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and was the song leader for more than 50 years. He was a carpenter who built a log cabin at his home and built many pieces of furniture for family and friends. Mr. Beasley was a charter member of the Unionville Lions Club and a former director of Bedford Farmer's Co-op.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Sam, Leonard and Virgil; sisters, Kate Beasley Crowell and Grace Beasley Gragg; and a great granddaughter, Addilea Grace Swift.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Giles Beasley of Chapel Hill; daughter, Linda (Larry) King of Unionville, Tennessee; sons, David (Brenda) Beasley and Don (Judi) Beasley both of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Cindy (Mark) Friedman, Stephen (Elysha) King, Dana (Brad) Perryman, Clifton (Kelly) Beasley and Shanna (Michael) Swift; great grandchildren, Bronson Friedman, Noah (Rachel) Friedman, Ashley King, Kaylie King, Tayler Andrews, David Andrews, Cole Perryman, Korie Ann Beasley, Lizzy Beasley, Tayton Swift and Millie Swift; as well as several nephews, nieces and many friends.

Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Freeman officiating. Burial followed at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
