Cornersville ran into a buzz saw Friday night at Lynchburg, falling 48-7 to Moore County.

"We started the game off with mental mistakes offensively and defensively and it plagued us the entire game," Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. "Moore County came out swinging and we never responded to the challenge. You can't win ballgames making the same mental mistakes week after week."

Moore County put the Bulldogs (1-3, 1-1) in a defensive vise, holding Kolbe McMahon and the running game in check to the tune of 130 yards, while allowing just five passing yards.

Raiders pull away

The Raiders (2-2, 1-1) returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown, but the Bulldogs came back to tie the game on a 70-yard touchdown scamper by quarterback Eli Woodard.

"Give all the credit in the world to Moore County because they wanted it more than we did," Randolph said.

"They played a great game and had a good scheme in place, and we didn't give ourselves a chance with all our

blown assignments."

The Raiders went on to score 41 unanswered points to claim the Region 4-A win.

CJ Coble (50), who led the Bulldogs with six tackles at Lynchburg, finishes off the Moore County quarterback after Will Vanhooser (3) slowed him down.

"This week we are going to put this one behind us. We definitely have a lot of teaching points that can be obtained from this one, but we will definitely try to fix this," Randolph said.

Week off

The Bulldogs have a bye this week before traveling to Mt. Pleasant (1-3, 0-2) on Sept. 25. "This is a bye week for us and we can have some extra time to get back to the fundamentals and work on being a smarter football team,"

Randolph said. "I have the utmost confidence in these young men, and I know they'll work there tails off to get better after a bad loss." Mt. Pleasant takes on Huntland (2-2, 2-1) this week at Franklin County.
