Lady Rockets continue on hot streak
The Forrest Lady Rockets wasted little time disposing of the Huntland Lady Hornets on Tuesday at Chapel Hill, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes and five in the first half before cruising to an 8-0 shutout win.
"We are finally coming together and playing as a team," said Forrest coach Natalie Dennis, whose team won its fifth straight. "We're meshing and we have to have to finish out the season in a strong way."
Colvin hits again
Brynn Colvin, who set a school record seven goals the last time she stepped on the pitch at the Lions Club Memorial Field tallied five more in Tuesday's victory.
Forrest had several early scoring opportunities, but could not get the initial goal until Colvin scored at the 30:38 mark of the first half.
She followed with a 30-yard laser off a free kick with 28:40 remaining in the first half and 30 seconds later, Rickee Gayle Carter scored on a corner kick to make it 3-0.
Haley Lowe made it 4-0 at the 20:18 mark and Colvin essentially put the game out of reach at 5-0 when she scored her third goal just before the first half horn sounded.
Into the goal
Lainey Mays scored just 27 seconds into the second half to make it six-nil and Colvin netted two more for the Lady Rockets, who hosted rival Community Thursday night.
"That is going to a rough one, but we just have to play our game," Dennis said. "Just play as team, make our passes, run through the ball and be tough."
Jasmine Runk continued her stinginess in the net, saving 18 Huntland shots on goal.
Runk has allowed just one goal in district play this season.
