The Forrest Lady Rockets (8-7) turned in a dominant defensive performance to notch their second straight win when they hammered the Page Lady Patriots 50-25 on Monday afternoon at the Eagleville Christmas Classic.

Forrest put the game out of reach early and built a 28-9 lead in the first half before forging a 44-12 advantage early in the fourth quarter en route to claim the 25-point victory.

Near shutdown

The Lady Rockets completely stymied Page's offensive attack and limited the Lady Patriots (5-6) to just nine field goals on 23 percent shooting, which included a 1-of-13 effort from 3-point range.

Despite hitting only 1-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc, Forrest finished with 21 field goals on 39 percent shooting, highlighted by a 7-of-11 effort in the first quarter. The Lady Rockets also outrebounded Page 43-19 overall and held a 17-6 advantage on the offensive glass.

"I was pleased with how we played defensively. We really stressed rebounding the last couple of weeks. They had a couple of big kids inside, but we controlled the boards tonight. I was happy with the way we played overall," Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said.

In front again

Leading scorer Caitlyn Yost once again paced the Lady Rockets and tallied 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and three steals. Krista Chapman and Sydney Hill both notched eight points and nine rebounds for Forrest as well, while Grace Thrasher and Kyleah Hengesbach added six and five points respectively.

"For us to be successful we have to get contributions from everybody else like we did tonight so that Caitlyn doesn't have to carry the whole load," Jean said.

Freshman forward Faith Wilken led Page with 10 points and Emma Richey chipped in four more.

The Lady Rockets pounced on the Lady Patriots early and jumped out to a 10-0 lead midway through the first quarter thanks to four points from Chapman and baskets from Yost, Katey Harmon and Hengesbach.

Riding high

Page tallied the next four points to narrow the gap to 10-4, but Forrest hit the Lady Patriots with another haymaker and put together a 14-1 run on the strength of six points from Hill, five points from Yost, and a Hengesbach trey to open up a 24-5 advantage with 5:14 left in the second period.

After Wilken hit a short jumper to trim the deficit to 24-7, Thrasher scored on a layup and an offensive put-back to stretch the Lady Rockets' lead to 28-7 late in the second quarter.

The Lady Patriots closed the gap to 28-9 on a layup by Delaney Porter in the closing seconds of the half, but Forrest continued to rapidly expand its lead in the third quarter and opened the stanza with a 10-0 spurt behind four points from Yost to make it 38-9.

Long range

Kara Magochy banked in a long 3-pointer as time expired in the third period to cut the deficit to 38-12 before the Lady Rockets notched the first six points of the fourth quarter on a short banks shot by Chapman and a pair of baskets from Yost to push their lead to 44-12 with 5:37 left.

Page then outscored FHS' reserves 13-6 the rest of the way for the 50-25 final.
