Dr. Melvin Glenn Lewis, physician, age 66 of Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away at home on January 5, 2016.

Dr. Lewis was born March 19, 1949 in Jackson, Tennessee to Samuel Hansford Cook Lewis and Olive Merle Laman Lewis. He grew up on the family farm in Alamo, Tennessee and graduated valedictorian from Alamo High School. He also graduated from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee, and completed his residency in Family Practice at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Lewis came to Lewisburg in 1978 to begin his medical practice. Beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and physician, he lived his Christian faith through his passion for helping people and serving the community. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beverly Williams Lewis; two children, Matt (Elizabeth) Lewis of Lewisburg, and Margaret (Joe) Cuschieri of Okinawa, Japan; and four grandchildren, Marshall Lewis, Garrison Lewis, Temperance Lewis and Crockett Lewis.

There were two Celebration of Life gatherings. The first gathering was in Alamo, Tennessee at Rebecca's (beside Ronk Funeral Home) on 96 South Bells Street on Sunday, Jan. 10 from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The second gathering will be in Lewisburg, Tennessee at the Lewisburg Recreation Center on Thursday, Jan. 14 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
