Josephine Shelton Foster
Josephine Shelton Foster, affectionately known as Meme Jo, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the age of 93.
Meme Jo was born on October 6, 1922, and grew up in a L&N Railroad family living as a child and teenager in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Decatur, Ala., and eventually in Cornersville, Tenn., where she met and married her husband of 50 years, Joe Foster.
Meme Jo and Joe settled in the Blue Creek community of Giles County, Tenn. to spend their married life and raise a family of three sons. Meme Jo moved to Rosson Road in Adams, Tenn. shortly after Joe's passing in 1992 and expanded her circle of friends with her funny stories and giving away the wonderful products of her cooking.
Finally, Meme Jo expanded her circle of friends at Walking Horse Meadows and The Waterford at Sango in the Clarksville, Tenn. area. Meme Jo attended Roberson Fork Church of Christ while living in Blue Creek and Stroudsville Church of Christ while living on Rosson Road.
Besides many extended family members, church sisters and brothers, community neighbors and friends, and assisted living caretakers and friends, Memo Jo is survived by her three sons, Tom and Theresa Foster of Aiken, South Carolina, John and Connie Foster of Adams, Tenn. and Mike and Glenda Foster of Pascagoula, Miss. Meme Jo enjoyed and loved eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Brother Tom Payne officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. A private interment will be conducted at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Meme Jo's memory be made to the Stroudsville Church of Christ Building Fund, 1531 Stroudville Road, Adams, TN 37010.
