MCWC shines in regular season finale
In its last regular season meet, the Marshall County Wrestling Club competed at the "Rumble at the Nest" at Fairview and the grapplers continued its winning ways with 6 out of 10 wrestlers placing in the tournament.
"There is something to be said for having the ability to seek out the best competition. The club competed in tournaments all over the southeast, taking on all comers," coach Austin Montgomery said. "We are not limited by geographic borders, state level districting or downward competitive pressure."
Landon Desselle, Liam Bell and Peter Wilson took top honors, each with a first place finish. Overall the club had several dominating performances with many of their wins coming by pin or technical fall.
The club now looks toward the Tennessee State AAU championships on February 27 at the Williamson County Agricultural Center in Franklin.
"The best athletes seek to challenge the best and embrace adversity. Too often governing bodies and coaches try to manipulate wins through division of athletes and scheduling," Montgomery said. "If we only wrestled clubs our size or remained close to home, we would be doing our athletes a disservice."
