The Forrest Middle School Lady Rockets hosted Cascade Monday night at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill and got an outstanding performance in the circle from Caroline Warner, who twirled a one-hitter in a 12-0 five inning run-rule win.

Warner, who struck out five and walked zero Lady Champion batters, came within one out of a perfect game when she surrendered her only hit to Baily Olive with two outs in the top of the fifth inning.

Lots of hits

Warner also got plenty of run support from her Lady Rocket teammates, who banged out 10 hits in the five inning contest.

Seventh-grader Jenna Blanton went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, a base on balls and two stolen bases.

Anna Blanton and Josie Bond had two hits apiece with Blanton scoring three times and Bond driving in three runs.

FMS right fielder Zoe Long makes a running catch in the second inning.

After a scoreless first inning, Warner set down Cascade 1-2-3 in the top of the second inning before FMS pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning when Anna Blanton reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a Bond RBI base hit to right field.

Run blast

Warner struck out two-out-of-the three batters she faced in the top of the third and in the home half of the frame, the Forrest offense exploded with five runs.

FMS loaded the bases with no outs and after a 5-2 force out at home plate, Anna Blanton and Bond knocked in a run in back-to-back at bats, making it 3-0.

Another force out at home for the second out was followed by RBIs by Karly Daughrity, Zoe Long and Jenna Blanton.

Warner whiffed two more batters in the top of the fourth inning and in the bottom of the inning, Olive relieved Cascade starting pitcher Cheyanne Simpson in the circle.

Big inning

Forrest sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning and six of them wound up crossing home plate with the big blow coming off the bat of Bond, who slashed a two-run double.

Warner retired the first two batters in the top of the fifth before Olive's clean single to right field broke up the perfect game. On the next pitch, FMS first baseman Kaydee Todd scooped up a ground and tagged out Simpson to end the game.

Jenna Blanton went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the Lady Rockets' 12-0 win Monday night.

FMS (6-4-1) has a grueling month of March, playing on 17 dates until the season ends on March 25.

Included in the grind are two doubleheaders and tournaments at Ardmore (March 5) and Summertown (March 12).
