Lady Rockets blast Cornersville in three innings

The sun peeked out late Friday afternoon, just in time for the FMS Lady Rockets to shine in a 15-0 three inning, run-rule win over the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs.

Caroline Warner gave up one hit, walked one and struck out four in the contest and was saved of an earned run surrendered when center fielder Anna Blanton gunned down a Lady Dawg runner trying to score from second base in the second inning.

Heavy hitter

Kiersten Blayock swung the heavy lumber for the Lady Rockets, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and four RBI, blasting two doubles and a triple in her three at bats.

Laura Ann Mealer also went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases, while Anna Blanton was the consummate team player, driving in three runs on a trio of fielder's choice RBI.

Leadoff hitter Jenna Blanton had one hit, one base on balls, three stolen bases and scored three times, Zoe Long had one hit, scored twice, drove home one and swiped three bases and Ally Blanton had one hit was hit by pitch.

Abbi Woodward had the lone hit for Cornersville and Shelby Connelly drew a base on balls versus Warner.

Productive inning

Warner struck out the side in the top of the first inning and in the bottom of the frame, FMS tallied four runs on three hits, including back-to-back RBI base knocks by Mealer and Blalock.

With two down in the top of the second, Laura Allen reached on an FMS throwing error and went to second.

Woodard slashed a single to center field, but Anna Blanton came up throwing, rifling the ball to twin sister Ally, who put the tag on Allen to end the inning.

Forrest added a one run in the bottom of the second inning on an Anna Blanton fielder's choice RBI, making it 5-0.

Ten-run inning

CMS did not score in the top of the third after a two-out walk to Connelly and in the bottom of the inning, FMS put up 10 runs on five hits and were helped out by four Cornersville errors.

FMS hosts the LMS Tigerettes today at 4:30 p.m. and travels to Summertown for a tournament this weekend.

CMS entertains EA Cox on Monday at 4:30 p.m. and travels to South Giles on Tuesday.
