Former Lady Bulldog earns statewide honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --Trevecca University's Shelby Andrews and Haley Fagan were named the Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on Tuesday for their performances for March 14-20.


Andrews batted .571 (8-for-14) with one doubles, four runs scored and six RBIs in six games for the Trojans. The Dyersburg, Tenn., native collected two hits with a walk and two RBIs in the first game against Lee University and added two more hits with a double and a run scored in the second contest versus the Flames.

The senior outfielder went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the first of four games against Salem International and singled, walked and scored twice in the second game. Andrews walked and drove in a run in the third contest and singled and scored in the final game versus the Tigers.


Fagan added four more victories in five appearances during the week, allowing seven total runs with 32 strikeouts in 28.1 innings of work. The Cornersville, Tenn., native was roughed up in a start at Lee, giving up six runs on 11 hits with five walks and five strikeouts to take the loss, but rebounded with seven innings in the first game of the series against Salem International, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

The righthander tossed four shutout innings in the second game versus SIU, striking out seven and allowing just one hit. She worked 5.1 shutout frames in the third game of the series, giving up three hits and striking out seven, and pitched five shutout innings in the final game against the Tigers, allowing two hits with eight strikeouts.
