Wolaver home runs spark Lady Bucks
LYNCHBURG, TN -- Cornersville sophomore Taylor Wolaver slammed three home runs and drove in 10 to help the Motlow Lady Bucks complete a four-game sweep of Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) rival Cleveland State this past weekend in Cleveland.
The Lady Bucks (19-17, 12-12) climbed above the .500 mark for the first time since early in the season and evened their conference mark after starting the year 0-8. The Lady Bucks have now won 14 of their previous 18 contests. Motlow will host the Tennessee Wesleyan JV Monday at 2 p.m., then welcome TCCAA rival Southwest Tennessee April 15-16.
Motlow scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning in Friday's opener to win 7-5, then scored two in the top of the 10th to win game two 5-4. Saturday the Lady Bucks were dominant, especially in the circle behind Cameron Pearson and Riley Long, winning 10-2 and 8-1.
Home run leader
Wolaver was just one of many Motlow players who had strong weekends, but hers was certainly spectacular as she raised her season batting average to .305 and took over the team lead with five home runs.
Fayetteville freshman Riley O'Neal was equally productive as she went 9-15 for the weekend with a home run and nine RBI, including five in one game. Aubrey Crowell was 10-17 and had two doubles, raising her team-leading batting average to .517, and Lewisburg's Ashton Watkins was 5-13 with three doubles.
Long and Pearson combined for four wins and four complete games and were in complete control, especially on Saturday. Long's 10-inning performance in Friday's second game was impressive as she threw 164 pitches, then came back Saturday and threw 90 more.
