Dale H. Derryberry
Dale H. Derryberry, a resident of Livonia, Michigan, age 90, passed away on March 13, 2016.
The family moved here from a small Tennessee community, 30 miles south of Nashville, called Caney Springs. Dale went to school near Tiger Stadium and the Corktown area of Detroit as a child. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1943.
He was in the U.S. Ground Forces in World War II and also the USAA Force. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medals, also the prestigious Combat Infantry Badge.
Dale and Mary Ann McElwain were married at Holy Trinity Church in Corktown, Detroit in 1952.
He began working at the Detroit Street Railways Purchasing and Supplies Division in 1948 and later worked at other City Departments, retiring in 1982 as a Supervisor after 36 years.
He was a member of the VFW and DAV. He contributed to many charities.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Bessie Fairy (Fagan) Derryberry and his sister, Lois.
Surviving are his wife Mary Ann; son Jim; daughters Patricia and Denise; grandchildren Katie, Matthew, Laura, Robby, and Sarah and great- grandchildren Caleb, Hannah, Abigail, Kayla and Elise.
Burial was at Great Lakes National Cemetery at Holly, Michigan.
