Rep. Spivey drops out of the race
By Scott Pearson
State Representative Billy Spivey withdrew his name from the August Republican primary race on Thursday. In a phone interview with the Tribune, the two-term Lewisburg Republican cited a desire to step away from the demands of the General Assembly in order to devote more time to his family, church and work.
Per state law, as the incumbent, Spivey's withdrawal will cause the Marshall County Election Commission to re-open candidate qualifying in the District 92 race. The commission is awaiting clarification from the state but the new deadline for candidates to declare is likely to be noon, Thursday, April 21.
