After back-to-back losses, Nichirin (3-2) came up with a 5-1 win over A-Plus Wednesday night with the help of a great pitching performance by Carson Stacey and Mother Nature, who washed out the contest after the fifth inning.

Stacey went the distance on the hill for Nichirin, giving up one run on four hits, while striking out seven and walking zero A-Plus batters.

Scoreless first

Carson Stacey and Logan McCourtermanche pitched a scoreless first inning before A-Plus got on the board in the top of the second inning as Camryn Ruiz led off the frame with a base hit and proceeded to steal second and third base before scoring on a ground ball out.

Joseph Freeland knocked in two runs in the bottom of the inning to put Nichirin up 2-1 and Stacey pitched a scoreless third inning.

Kolton Fitch and Laramie Plott knocked back-to-back base hits to lead off the top of the fourth inning and JW Beasley moved both runners up on a groundout before the game was delayed 20 minutes due to a nearby lightning strike.

Logan McKnight had two hits for A-Plus, who fell 5-1 to Nichirin Wednesday night.

Back to work

After resumption of the game, a single by Tyler Wunderlin made it a 3-1 contest.

Stacey set down A-Plus 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning before Nichirin added two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning.

A-Plus (1-4) had a runner on second base with two outs when lightning struck again nearby and after a 20 minute delay, the game was called when the skies opened up with a torrential rainstorm.

The second game between the Elks and the Farm Center of Chapel Hill was postponed and will be made up at 5:30 p.m. Friday night.

Camryn Ruiz reaches for home plate as he scores the first run of the game for A-Plus in the bottom of the second inning.
