The Elks (5-0) remained undefeated in Marshall County Babe Ruth league play via a 10-6 win over Marshall Medical Center (MMC) Tuesday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Field at Lewisburg.

The Elks banged out 11 hits in the contest with Devin Aydelott leading the way with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate.

Preston Shelton, Walker Whaley and Grayson Whaley chipped in with two hits apiece for the orange and black.

Devin Aydelott had two hits for the Elks in their 11-6 win over Marshall Medical Center Tuesday night.

Chase "Duke" Karczewski had three hits in three at bats with a pair of triples and two RBI for MMC (3-2).

Scoreless start

MMC starting pitcher Colton Barber held the Elks scoreless in the first two innings as did Elks starter Raymond Cooksey.

Colton Barber started on the mound for MMC.

The Elks broke through in the top of the third inning, scoring five runs on just four hits, including a two-run single Gauge Anderson, a run-scoring double by Grayson Whaley, an RBI base knock by Aydelott and an RBI fielder's choice by Jake Wallace.

The Medical Center boys came back with two unearned runs off Cooksey in the bottom of the inning with the help of some shaky defense by the Elks that committed two errors in the field and a dropped third strike that allowed Barber to reach base.

Undaunted, the Elks pushed the gas pedal, scoring five more runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run double by Aydelott, an RBI single by Walker Whaley, a ground ball RBI by Anderson and another two-bagger by Grayson Whaley that drove home another Elk base runner, making it 10-2.

Raymond Cooksey picked up the win on the mound for the Elks.

Big triple

Karczewski led off the home half of the inning with a triple down the right field line and promptly trotted home on a sacrifice fly RBI by Will Vanhooser.

Caleb Crowell came to the mound for MMC in the top of the fifth and shut out the Elks before knocking in the final run of the game in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-5.

Karczewski followed two batters later with his second triple of the night, driving in Caleb McElhaney to make it a 10-6 contest.

Walker Whaley came to the hill for the Elks and struck out the final MMC batter in the game as time ran out.
