Leave it to former Cornersville all-state ace and current Columbia State Community College pitcher David Looney to mess it up for Chapel Hill.

Looney, who twice beat Forrest in sub-state games at Chapel Hill in high school, now coaches A-Plus in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League and his squad turned in a gutsy performance Monday night, coming back from a four-run deficit to defeat previously unbeaten Farm Center 8-6.

Smith hits them

Looney's boys fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning as Jaylen Smith led off with a base on balls off A-Plus starting pitcher Knox Barnes.

Smith proceeded to steal second and third base before coming home to score on a sacrifice fly RBI by Dylan Pendley.

Ethan Mealer started on the mound for Chapel Hill and pitched two no-hit, shutout innings before Dustin Brashear took over in the third and tossed another shutout frame.

In the home half of the inning it was Smith again who lit the fuse with a leadoff base hit to left field.

Smith repeated his steal of second and third base and this time, Brashear helped his own cause with an RBI single, making it two-zip.

Knox Barnes pitched a great game, giving up just six hits in 4.2 innings before tiring in the fifth inning.

Barnes stayed in the game while Blaize Sweeney came to the hill for the Farm Center to begin the fifth inning when A-Plus came back to tie the game, scoring two unearned runs.

In the home half of the inning, Barnes began to tire in the heat, walking four Farm Center batters that led to four runs.

A bases loaded error scored the first run in the inning before Lyttle made it 4-2 with a fielder's choice RBI and a Sweeney walk with the bases juiced gave the Farm Center a three-run lead.

Jaylen Smith, who had one hit, three runs scored and four stolen bases looks at a wild pitch in the fifth inning.

The final run of the inning scored on a wild pitch by reliever Mitchell Ford, who got the third out of the inning one batter later.

Catching up

Ford led off the top of the sixth inning with a base hit and Camryn Ruiz reached on a Farm Center infield miscue.

Dustin Brashear knocks in a run with an RBI single in the third inning.

A wild pitch sent Ford to third and he trotted home on an RBI base hit by Zack Graves.

Logan Courtemanche walked before Sweeney got the first out on a grounder to Lyttle at first base.

Michael Dunnavant followed with a base on balls to load the bases and both Graves and Courtemanche scored on a passed ball, making it a 6-5 contest with Smith in for Sweeney on the mound.

Ahead to stay

Logan McKnight also walked and Jacob Harris followed with a two-run single that put A-Plus in front 7-6.

Barnes added an insurance run with a fielder's choice RBI before Smith got out of the inning with a strikeout.

Ford shifted into high gear on the hill, striking out the side in order to end the game and hand the Farm Center loss number one on the season.

Babe Ruth closing ceremonies will take place on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
