FOHH golf tournament funds many projects
The Friends of Henry Horton State Park (FOHH) have been busy bees as usual in its effort to maintain, beautify, restore historic landmarks and make the park more accessible to the public.
In order to fund the projects for the organization, the FOHH hosts its annual golf tournament at the Buford Ellington Golf Course inside Henry Horton State Park.
June 24 event
This year's four-man scramble event, which is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the organization will be held on Friday, June 24 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
The First State Bank team consisting of Ryan Sweeney, Brian Holcomb, Matt Morehead and Jacob Daughrity took home first place in 2015, winning on a match of cards after a tie with First Commerce Bank.
The FOHH is a non-profit organization that sponsors the Duck River Watershed Education project with the fifth-graders from the Delk-Henson Intermediate School at Chapel Hill and Cascade Elementary School at Wartrace.
Other projects the FOHH has completed are the purchase of a Hayride wagon/trailer used at the park, new swing sets in the playground and campground area including a handicap accessible swing and the remodeling of Trap and skeet range lodge, bathrooms and coin machines.
Also enhancements of the wetlands area have been newly established.
Matching funds for the grants the FOHH has received have also been essential to fund the fitness cluster, composting grant, observation deck, farm to table garden community garden and the opening and maintaining of the trails and blue ways.
