Bombers destroy Franklin
The Marshall County Bombers lived up to their nickname in a big way, crushing Franklin 23-0 in five innings in the first round of the Babe Ruth 13-15 year-old State Tournament Friday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Field in Lewisburg.
The Marshall County All-Stars banged out 24 hits in the contest and three pitchers tossed a combined no-hitter versus the Generals.
Grayson Whaley picked up the win, tossing the first three innings, walking two and striking out seven Franklin batters.
Jaylen Smith pitched the fourth inning and Mitchell Ford came on to close out the no-hitter in the fifth.
Regular season league MVP Dustin Brashear had an incredible night, going 4-for-5 with two homeruns, a double, 5RS and 6RBI.
Smith also had a four-hit ballgame with a homerun and a triple, while driving home three runs, scoring three times and stealing a base.

Franklin catcher Cody Gaylon drew the first of his two bases on balls in the inning and stole second.

Whaley struck out three out of the four batters he faced in his final inning and a Mealer sacrifice fly RBI and an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning gave the Bombers an 18-0 lead.
Smith continued the no-hitter in the bottom of the fourth and in the visitor's portion of the fifth inning, Brashear went deep again as the Bombers scored five times to make it a 23-0 contest.
Ford struck out the first batter he faced in the top of the fifth before Brad Tardiff drew a base on balls, but Ford ended the blow-out with consecutive strikeouts.
Giles County beat Lebanon 12-4 in the first game of the opening night twin bill.
