Just like a dropped third strike or a muffed foul ball, the Marshall County Bombers have new life when it was announced on Wednesday that the 13-15 year-old all-stars were awarded an at large bid to SE Region Babe Ruth Tournament at Union City next weekend.

The Bombers, along with state champion Giles County and host Union City will be the three Tennessee representative in the eight-team tournament that gets underway on July 26.

Other opponents

The other five squads that qualified are Tallahassee and Winter Park from Florida, Stanly County and Greenville from North Carolina and the Nottaway Babe Ruth League from Virginia.

Marshall County is in the National Division and will open up versus host Union City at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27 and will play Winter Park on Thursday and Greenville on Friday.

The top two teams from the American and National Divisions move on to championship bracket play on Saturday.

World reward

The winner earns a berth to the Babe Ruth World Series at Williston, South Dakota on August 13.

The Bombers will be holding a fundraising car wash at NAPA in Lewisburg this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Please make donations to help alleviate the costs of the trip by contacting Marshall County Babe Ruth League president Ken Demastus at (931) 224-1688.
