Liggett captures second club championship

After losing the Saddle Creek club championship by one shot last year to Zach Hilbers, Lewisburg's Joe Liggett ran away with the 2016 title last weekend, shooting a two-day two-under par 142 total on the 6,708 yard tract.

Liggett fired a two-under par round of 70 on Saturday, followed by an even par score of 72 on Sunday to claim his second club championship.

Chapel Hill's TJ Tipps finished in second place, eight shots behind Liggett after shooting a 73 on Saturday before slipping with a four-over par round of 76 on Sunday to finish at 149.

Bam Haislip (75-76-151), Hilbers (73-79-152) and Eddie Wiles (73-85-158) rounded out the top five in the Men's Open Division.

Ladies

In the Ladies Division, 11-year old Claudette Runk surprised the field when she fired an 83 on Saturday before following it up with an 88 on Sunday to win the title with a two day total of 171.

Renee King (98-94-192), Patty Parsons (96-108-204), Mandy Mason (108-103-211) and Cindy Powell (110-123-233) rounded out the field of women golfers.

Men's Senior

In the Men's Senior Division, club owner Eddie Roberts won the championship, beating Glenn Anderson in a playoff.

Roberts (83-79-162) and Anderson (80-82-162) both finished seven shots clear of third place Jeff King, who came up with a 90-79-169 finish.

Bill Marsh (87-86-173) finished in fourth place and Jack Freeland (83-95-178) rounded out the top five.
