The Forrest Lady Rockets, coming off a tough 3-3 tie with 3A Wilson Central hosted longtime foe Cascade Tuesday at the Lions Club Memorial Field and the Chapel Hill girls easily outdistanced the Lady Champions 5-1.

"It think personally we had a much better first half than we did the second half, but I am proud of the girls, we don't really have a lot of subs," first-year Forrest coach Nicole Pickle said.

Forrest (2-0-1) dominated its now non-district opponent the entire game, especially in the first half as they peppered the Cascade net until breaking thorough at the 36:59 mark when Rickee Gayle Carter scored off a Brynn Colvin corner kick.

"That's one thing we have been working on every single practice," Pickle said. "We want to be able to score on corner kicks like that at least one or two a game, if not more. That has been a big point of focus for us this season."

Cascade did well not to go down by a large margin early as Forrest continued to put pressure on the visitors from Wartrace.

Zoe Long is on the Cascade doorstep for a rebound that was saved by the Lady Champs keeper.

Zoe Long just missed on a rebound, Haley Lowe drilled a shot that was saved by the Cascade keeper, while Colvin had a couple good looks to tally a goal in the first 30 minutes of the half.

Cascade finally got some offense going and forced Forrest goalie Jasmine Runk into action and the junior standout came up huge, saving some good Lady Champion attempts to score.

With 3:01 remaining in the half, Colvin, a University of Alabama in Huntsville verbal commit made it a 2-0 game when she was on the doorstep at the right time to knock in a rebound and the first half ended with Forrest in front by two goals to none.

"Those first goals are very important," Pickle said. "We like to get that lead early, it gives us some insurance to hang on early and it worked out for us tonight."

Cascade put pressure on the Forrest defense early in the second half and Runk had to come up with a big save at the 35:40 mark.

Forrest keeper Jasmine Runk, who made 20 saves in the contest, comes up with a big stop in the second half versus Cascade Tuesday night at Chapel Hill.

"Our defense has done an excellent job," Pickle said. "Jasmine is great, she works her tail off and that whole defensive line does a great job."

Three minutes later, Lowe knocked in a deflected rebound shot to make it a 3-0 contest before the Lady Champs finally got on the board with just over 30 minutes remaining in the game on a Sarah McKee goal.

Sierrah Riley (23) comes up with the first of her two second goals in the Lady Rockets' 5-1 win over Cascade.

Forrest continued to push forward and with 26:53 left in the game, Sierrah Riley picked up a rebound and drilled it into the back of the net, giving the Lady Rockets a 4-1 lead.

Riley would add another goal at the 21:43 mark to complete the brace and the Lady Rockets cruised home with the four-goal win.

Forrest hosts Franklin County Monday before embarking on a four-game District 9A/AA road trip versus Fayetteville, Community, Huntland and MTCS.

"We are happy with the start, we have one more home game next week before we start district play in September, so we just want to keep this momentum going," Pickle said.

The Lady Rockets return home on Thursday, September 22 when they host LaVergne High School.
