The Forrest Lady Rockets traveled to Murfreesboro on Tuesday for a District 9A/AA game with the Lady Cougars and after a full 80 minutes of action, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

"Obviously we would have loved to come away with a victory, especially in a district game, but we will take this tie and move forward," Forrest coach Nicole Pickle said. "I think the girls performed very well. We told them before the game they needed to come out on the offensive attack first and we did that."

Had their chances

There were plenty of scoring opportunities for the Lady Rockets in the contest as they had 21 shots on goal, but excellent goal keeping kept Forrest off the board.

"MTCS has an excellent keeper in Holly Bowman and we just could not get any shots to fall. I am proud of the girls for their effort throughout the entire game -- they were bumped around and played very physical," Pickle said.

Forrest also has a top-notch keeper in Jasmine Runk, who made 18 saves in the contest and was just as stellar in the net as Bowman.

After a scoreless first half, both teams tried to break through in the second, but to no avail.

The Lady Cougars almost broke the deadlock late on a pair of free kicks by Mandy Stinson, but both times Runk came away with saves to preserve the tie.

Macy Brown (11) and Elizabeth Pimental (4) converge on MTCS's Sophie Spivey (21) as they take away a first half scoring opportunity.

District finale

Forrest has one more district game left at Huntland next week and they need to win big to get ahead of the tiebreaker heading into the District 9A/AA Tournament at Chapel Hill.

The Lady Rockets need to beat Huntland by four goals to secure second place over MTCS in the southern division which is led by Community.

"That would give us a second place seed and put us in a really good position in the tournament. With us hosting the tournament this year, we want to make a statement and prove to some of the northern division teams that we can compete with them---they are used to winning the tournament and we want to change that this year, and I believe we definitely have the potential to do that," Pickle said.
