The FMS hoopsters traveled to Unionville Tuesday night and came away with a clean sweep over Community as the girls remained undefeated and the boys broke a five-game losing streak.

Lady Rockets

The Lady Rockets (8-0) were tested early by the Viqueens, who led 6-5 before a rebound and put-back by Angela Jett, followed by a basket by Carissa Curtis that gave FMS a 9-6 lead after the first quarter.

A Rilley Davis basket to start the second quarter was matched by two free throws by Jenna Blanton before back-to-back buckets by Community's Hali Smith gave the Viqueens a 12-11 lead.

Both teams went into a scoring drought until Curtis seesawed Forrest back in front when she scored on a rebound and put-back with two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The Lady Rockets turned up the defensive pressure at the end of the period as Karley Daughrity stole the rock and converted and Blanton came up with a pair steals and scores on back-to-back Viqueens' possessions, extending Forrest's lead to 19-11.

Lead extended

Tatianna Eady had a chance to get a couple points back for Community late, but missed two free throws and Curtis made her pay, going the length of the floor for a layup to give FMS a 21-12 lead at the half.

Breanna Whitaker opened up the second half scoring with a basket for Community, but a single free throw by Jett and a Daughrity basket off a Viqueens missed shot gave FMS its first double digit lead of the game at 24-14.

The Lady Rockets led by 11 points entering the fourth quarter when both squads went cold from the field for the first half of the period.

Jett finally busted the drought with a basket in the low post and Curtis made it rain, throwing down a long three-pointer to make it 33-17.

Jett scored again in the paint and Curtis scored eight out of the next 10 points in the contest to cap off her game-high 22-point effort.

Forrest's Kristen Blalock scored the final basket of the contest as the Lady Rockets cruised home with the 25-point win.

After starting the season with two consecutive wins, the FMS Rockets faltered with a five-game losing streak and it did not look like they were going to turn it around versus the Vikings, who jumped out to an early 6-1 lead.

John Reasonover drives to the hoop for two of his game-high 11 points at Community Tuesday night.

With 1:23 remaining in the first period, John Reasonover converted a three-point play the old-fashioned way, making it 6-4 and after a Community missed shot, Reasonover tied the game with a running lay-up.

Another Vikings' missed shot turned into a two-shot foul opportunity at the other end for Joseph Whitaker, who buried both free throws to give the Rockets an 8-6 lead at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter was evenly played as the Rockets held a one-point 11-10 lead until Reasonover made four-of-four free throws in the final two minutes of the first half, giving Forrest a 15-10 lead.

Big 3

A Whittaker bucket in the paint for FMS kicked off the second half scoring and after an unsuccessful offensive trip down the floor for the Vikings, Max Kirby rained down a 3-pointer, doubling the Chapel Hill lead at 20-10.

A Community bucket by Evan Petrie broke the Forrest run, but an Andrew Timmons basket in the low post and a Kirby three-point play on a drive to the hoop ended the period with the Rockets holding a commanding 25-12 lead.

At the outset of the fourth quarter, Forrest put the game away as Kirby drilled his second 3-pointer in the game and after a Community timeout, the Rockets stole the ball and Timmons scored on a fast-break bucket, making it 30-12.

The Rockets played freely from there, going into a spread offense to end the game and break their losing streak in the 15-point win.

Andrew Timmons (24), who scored nine points versus the Vikings, drives down the lane for a runner in the Rockets' 36-21 win.

Reasonover led all scorers in the contest with 11 points and Kirby and Timmons had nine points apiece for the Rockets.
