Marshall County High School senior Cain McWilliams was named as a finalist for the 2016 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Class 4A Lineman of the Year Award Tuesday by the TSSAA.

McWilliams and the Tigers (11-1) host Spring Hill (7-5) Friday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg in a Class 4A quarterfinal contest.

Marshall County has beaten the Raiders seven straight times, including a 49-12 pasting on October 14 in which McWilliams scored a 21-yard TD as MCHS accumulated 508 yards of total offense.

Other finalist

The other 4A finalist is Cade Mays from Knoxville Catholic, who finished second to Emmit Gooden from Haywood High School last year.

Forrest's Slayton Wild did not make the cut, but will have some extra motivation Friday night when the Rockets take on Marion County in a Class 2A quarterfinal contest at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill as both 2A Lineman of the Year Award finalists (Alex Kirkendoll and Hunter McClain) will be in town.

This is the 32nd year that the Mr. Football Awards have been presented to Tennessee's best high school football players. A Mr. Football trophy will be presented to the winners of each category. A Mr. Football plaque will be presented to the runner-up in each category. The other semi-finalists will each receive a certificate.

Major honor

More than 400 people, including the 34 finalists, their families, coaches, school administrators and members of the media from all parts of the state, are expected to attend the 2016 luncheon.

Mike Keith, play-by-play voice of the Tennessee Titans, will emcee the awards presentation. A live videostream of the awards will be provided at www.titansonline.com.
