Mr. Robert Fitz, age 72, of the Spring Place Community, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Mr. Fitz moved to Marshall County in 1976 as a Quality Control Engineer for Heil Quaker Corporation. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and proudly wore the colors of his beloved Hokies. His career entailed farming, software quality control, and statistics, retiring as a network engineer in the missile defense industry. He was well known for his whittling of Possum Blossoms. Many articles were written about his creations, and he was featured on Tennessee Crossroads on PBS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ernest Fitz, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Patty Fitz of the Spring Place community, his mother, Bettye Ruth Fitz, two sisters, Donna Jean (David) Livingston of Brentwood and Cindy (Chuck) Lassing of Nashville, and three brothers, Tony (Yvonne) Fitz of Fairfax, VA, Michael (Jan) Fitz of Apollo Beach, FL, and Ron (Bunny) Fitz of Broken Arrow, OK. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held on December 9, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Richland Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the Spring Place community.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Lyme Disease Association in Jackson, NJ.
