Johnson leads E.A. Cox over Lewisburg Middle

It was the Cameron Johnson show at Lewisburg Thursday night as the EA Cox standout poured in 23 points for the Cougars, who won going away over Lewisburg Middle School 43-29.

Johnson banged in five 3-pointers in the contest, including three treys and 13 points in the big 19-point decisive third quarter for the Cougars.

Lewisburg held the lead twice early in the game at 4-2 on a Devontae Davis steal and score and then after the Cougars tied the game, Lamarion Price nailed a 3-pointer for the Tigers, making it 7-4.

Johnson came up with his first 3-pointer of the game moments later and Kaelen Hill finished off the first period with another trey as the Cougars took a 10-7 lead after the end of the first quarter.

LMS went on a 6-2 run on two free throws by Davis and a pair of field goals by Silas Hurt and Bryson Hughes, giving the home team a 13-12 lead with 2:25 remaining in the first half.

The Cougars came right back, outscoring LMS 6-3 the rest of the period, including a Johnson buzzer beating 3-pointer that made it 19-15 at the half.

After Davis hit one of two from the free throw line to open the second half, Johnson went ballistic, beginning with back-to-back 3-pointers as the Cougars equaled all of its first half points in the period to take a 38-23 into the fourth quarter.

Hurt, who finished with nine points in the game drained a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and Davis knocked in a basket for his tenth point of the night which led the Tigers in scoring.

Kenneth Turner had the Tigers' only other field goal in the final period as LMS outscored the Cougars 7-5 in the last six minutes of the 14-point loss.
