Sen. Thelma Harper to Speak at Potluck Luncheon, February 15
COLLEGE GROVE – FiftyForward College Grove will celebrate Black History for its Birthday Potluck gathering this Feb. 15. State Senator Thelma Harper will be the featured speaker and Marie Ogilvie & Friends will provide music. Lunch will be served at 11:30, and the program will begin at noon. There is no charge to attend, however, diners are asked to bring a side dish.
Sen. Harper has held public office in Nashville for over three decades, and has served with distinction. In 1991, after serving on the city council for eight years, Harper became Tennessee’s first African American woman state senator. She was also the first woman to preside over the senate.
Harper serves the 19th District, which is composed of a large portion of Davidson County including the urban core of Nashville.
Talented vocalist and center member, Marie Ogilvie, will headline the music portion of the program. Minister Pamela Cotton will accompany Marie on piano, and a group of Marie’s friends will join them on the closing numbers.
Birthday Potluck is held every third Wednesday at the center to celebrate members whose birthday occurs in that month. The Center provides the main course, and everyone brings a side dish. FiftyForward College Grove (615.368.7093) is located at 8607 Horton Highway.
