William Anderson “Andy” Porter

William Anderson “Andy” Porter, 73, passed away Feb. 24, 2017, at John R. Williamson-Life Touch Hospice in El Dorado, AR. He lived in Camden, AR, formerly of El Dorado and was born April 23, 1943, in Cornersville, TN to the late Johnie William and Louise Porter.

As a small country boy his love of coon, quail and squirrel hunting began. Through his adult years he continued his love of hunting and his love for his hunting dogs grew. Andy was known as an excellent horse trainer. He began training Tennessee Walking Horses at a young age and continued for 20 years. During his 20 years training Tennessee Walking Horses, three of the horses he trained earned the titles of World Grand Champions. In 1981, he moved his family to El Dorado, AR to pursue a career as an oil field pumper. After becoming an experienced oil field pumper he went back to his first love of training horses. Andy worked for Phoenix Foster training all breeds of horses. During this time, he established friendships with many wonderful people, friendships that have stayed strong over the years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mary K. Jacobs.

Andy loved his family unconditionally. He was blessed with 49 years with his wife and blessed with two daughters, three grandsons, and one granddaughter, all of whom he loved with his whole heart.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Brandon Porter of Camden, AR; daughters, Patti McGilton of Monroe, LA and Lori DeWoody (Shawn) of Camden, AR; brother, Bobby Porter (Gayle) of Belfast, TN; brother-in-law, Joe Brandon (Sharon) of Lewisburg, TN; grandchildren, Colton DeWoody, Kerrstyn DeWoody, Paxton McGilton, and Finley McGilton, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Proctor Funeral Home Chapel in Camden, AR with cremation to follow. Rev. Erin Kaye will officiate the service. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the following, Calvary Baptist Church Youth, 319 Hwy 278 East, Camden, AR 71701; First Presbyterian Church Youth, 300 East Main Street, El Dorado, AR 71730; or John R.
