Congressman Blackburn addresses excluding press from broadband meeting

Monday, March 6, 2017

Congressman Marsha Blackburn sent the following statement to the Marshall County Tribune March 2, 2017, in response to the article that was published March 1 regarding the broadband meeting held at Columbia State Community College Feb. 24.

“Last week, I joined with local and state officials as well as FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and industry professionals to have a much needed discussion on rural broadband expansion. This is an issue we’ve been working on for quite some time and we felt like it was a great opportunity to all sit down together and discuss in detail. Like many meetings elected officials conduct, press was not in the room out of respect for attendees of the event, but I welcome the opportunity to broaden the conversation to include reporters and citizens alike because of course this is an issue Tennesseans know well; our end goal has always been and will to continue to be to increase access to broadband internet. We always encourage a healthy discussion and would be more than willing to take questions regarding this issue.”
