We have several events coming up in the upcoming weeks for the Shelter and the Shelter Volunteers. Follow us on facebook at Lewisburg Animal Shelter for more information.

Make your plans to attend O’Malley’s Birthday Bash Saturday March 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Dogs available this week at the Lewisburg Amiman Shelter:

Clover #79 – Clover is a 14-16 week old tan with black shepherd mix puppy found as a stray on New Lake Road during the rainstorm. She weighs 10 pounds. We believe she may be part of a litter than someone had threatened to dump and are on the lookout for more puppies. The area was checked and no more were found but the lady who called her in has been alerted to be on the lookout for more. She is on stray hold until 3-11.

Teller #70 – Teller is a male red merle coonhound found as a stray on Milltown Road with Shakira the black and tan female. He was taken to the vet with torn foot pads upon intake and is currently on antibiotics twice daily. He has very high food angst but is already putting on weight and realizing that he is going to get fed he is getting better. He is currently rescue only but in the upcoming days he may be switched to adoption status. He may have a vet appointment for his neuter on 3-9 but we are waiting to hear back from the vet. He weighs 63.5 pounds.

Patrick #77 - Patrick is a male shepherd/lab mix found as a stray on Bradford Road on 3-3. He is tan and white in color and is underweight at 46 pounds. He is very food anxious and we have him on scheduled feedings to help him. He is super friendly and loves petting and treats. He would probably not be good for a home with small children as he does jump up on you and could knock young ones over. He was fine with the shelter cats. We will be evaluating him with other dogs after his neuter and his food anxiety has passed. He has a vet appointment on 3-9 and will be available for adoption afterwards for $75.

Hawkeye #244 - Hawkeye is a male lab mix found as a stray on Nashville Highway in Chapel Hill. He is very friendly and outgoing and has gotten much better since his neuter. He will still go at a male dog but he loves to play and romp with the females. High energy and a barker! Came in with the female black lab Tar Heel so he may be related to her but they are not bonded so can be adopted separately. He needs room to run and a family to help him spend alot of that energy! Very smart and highly food and treat motivated, this guy has alot of potential. He weighs 57 pounds and is heartworm negative and microchipped. His adoption fee is $75 but if both he and TarHeel are adopted/rescued together then their fee is only $75 for both.

Gator #270 – Gator was picked up on Jackson Ave on 9/29/16. He is very friendly with people and a handsome young man. He was recently neutered so as soon as his hormones settle down we will begin testing him with the other dogs. He has been really good with young smaller children when folks have stopped by with them at the shelter, not jumping on them at all so it’s possible he was raised with small kids around at some time in his life prior to coming into the shelter. Like he knows they are more fragile than their larger humans! He weighs 58 pounds and is microchipped. He did test positive for heartworms so he has just started on his heartworm treatment. He is not good with the male dogs, trying to fight them through the kennel fencing. He will need to go to a well supervised home.

Spellbinder #291 - Spellbinder appears to be a female American Bulldog/hound mix, brown and white in color. She was picked up on Hunter Road and weighs 56 pounds. She has really come out of her shell and is now a bouncing ball of energy. She will jump first thing and we are working with her to stop this as she almost knocks us down so would a child for sure. She appears to have been a mom at some point and may have recently weaned pups upon intake, but we have had her spayed now and she is fully vetted. Her adoption fee is $75. She is microchipped and heartworm negative. She can be dominant with other dogs, especially if they growl at her as she tries to prove her alpha status. Would be best in a no dog or no challenging dog home. She loves people and wants to be right by your side when out. Would make a wonderful loving companion for someone looking for a love you to the end of time dog!

Delilah #318 - Delilah is a female lab/hound mix found as a stray on Water Street on 12-2. She is super sweet and appears to be housebroken. She has been alpha toward some of the other dogs, and it appears more she is protective of whatever human she is around. She needs to go to a no dog home or be well supervised. She was wearing a collar. She is fully vetted, microchipped, and heartworm negative. She weighs 60 pounds.

Selena #46 - Selena is a female lab/American Bulldog mix found as a stray on Greenwood Road in Chapel Hill. She had been running loose for a week or more. She is black with a little white in color and she has already been spayed because has a green tattoo on her abdomen. She was taken to the vet by the lady who found her and heartworm tested and fully vaccinated, so there will be no charge to the rescue or adopter for her fee. She is fully sponsored. According to the lady who found her she would be better with older children as she seems a bit anxious with younger children who may be running around her noisily. She wants to be the boss in a household so is an alpha dog. She is heartworm negative.

Sinbad #48 - Sinbad appears to be a Mountain Curr possibly mixed with an English Bulldog as he is squater than your normal bulldog. He weighs 48 pounds and was found wearing a thick black collar on Patrick Drive. He is super friendly and good natured and looks to be around a year old. His adoption fee is $75 as he is now fully vetted and heartworm negative. He is microchipped also. He loves to play and has been great with the other dogs.

Pharrell #51 - Pharrell was picked up on Cherry Corner Rd in Cornersville on 2-17-17 along with Jewel. He appears to be a Beagle/Terrier mix and weighs 17lbs. He is a little shy at first but loves when you show him attention. He and Jewel play well together and we believe she is his mother. He is around a year old. He is now fully vetted but until he gets more weight on him as well as more confident he is rescue only for a $70 rescue fee. He is heartworm negative and is microchipped.

Jewel #52 - Jewel was picked up on Cherry Corner Rd in Cornersville on 2-17-17 along with Pharrell. She appears to be a Beagle/Terrier mix and weighs 13lbs. She is a little shy at first but loves when you show her attention and go slow with her. She is available for rescue only while she gains more weight and gets more confident for a $70 rescue fee. She is heartworm negative and microchipped. She is around 2 years old and we believe she is Pharrell’s mother.

Meatloaf #53 – Meatloaf is a male possibly Jack Russell/Beagle mix found as a stray on Pinecone Drive with a female dog. She is being returned to owner but the lady said this one has been around the area for a few days. He is leery of people and is going to take some work to gain his trust. He has become more trusting since he first came in but is still rescue only right now. He may be available to adopt once he accepts people more, but will be available to a rescue to continue working with him on 2-25 once his hold is up. He weighs 23 pounds. He has been fully vetted and is $70 to rescue only right now. He is heartworm positive, and will be started on a slow heartworm kill method here at the shelter. He is microchipped.

Coolio #66 - Coolio is a male lab mix found as a stray on Mooresville Hwy around the Rambo Hollow Road. He is very timid right now and balks easily at new situations or noises, so we will be working with him to give him time to adjust. He weighs 56 pounds has a vet appointment 3-7-17 for his neuter and rabies, heartworm testing and microchipping. He is beginning to trust and will make someone a loving dog companion.

Gaelic #78 - Gaelic is a male American Bulldog mix found as a stray at Westhills School. He was hanging around the school either waiting on someone there or he had been wandering through the area as a stray. He is good natured but just a bit skittish right now so we are going slow with him. He was wearing a blue thick collar so he is on owner stray hold until 3-14. He weighs 47 pounds.
